SharePoint lacks a lot of features When working with SharePoint Portal Server 2003, users will soon recognize, that a lot of essential features are missing in SPS 2003 and WSS. The lack of a tree navigation Web Part for a fast and quick navigation incited us to develop a tree Web Part for users as well as for administrators.
PE SharePoint Director enhances a SharePoint Web with a sophisticated tree control, based on SPS 2003 object model. The feature rich PE SharePoint Director enables users to find nearly each information in a web only by opening the tree nodes, without navigating, reloading and opening all other parent pages in the SPS structure.
PE SharePoint Director gives you more than 50 configuration options to tailor the Web Part to your needs. Features of PE SharePoint Director at a glance
Show site structure Starting at a configurable root node within a site, PE SharePoint Director builds a complete recursive site structure of areas, libs, list and items, based on current user credentials. Clicking on a tree node opens or closes the following windows explorer like site structure without reloading the page. All areas, WSS-Sites and Personal Sites can be shown by using .NET impersonation feature.
Configure lists and libs Each SPS lib and list collection can be configured individually, e.g. which lists are included in the tree view or if documents and items are included in the tree view or not. This lets you configure the PE SharePoint Director in hundreds of ways and gives you the possibility to provide a quick access to specific information structures.
Number of items and latest changes Often users wants to know exactly, which information has been added or has been changed during a specified time period. PE SharePoint Director can be configured to count all items in a collection (library or list) and to display all items that has been changed during a defined time period or since users last login. Changed or new items are marked with a "New" flag.
JavaScript tree PE Sharepoint Director uses a client site JavaScript tree to display SharePoint navigation structure. The JavaScript tree is compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla (Firefox) and Opera Browsers. The options "Expand all" will open the entire tree by one click without reloading the web page. This gives user a quick and complete overview.

Saving tree state in cookies By enabling this feature, the tree state (which nodes are opened or closed) will be stored in a cookie. Navigating back to the page where PE SharePoint Director Web Part is embedded, the tree remains still in the latest node condition. PE Sharepoint Director's Web Part configuration allows to define, how many days the cookie may be stored on the client.
Caching PE SharePoint Director uses the Sharepoint Web Part caching feature. This improves performance dramatically up to 100 times faster in comparison to fetch all SPS objects in real time. The option caching time can be specified in the PE Sharepoint Director's Web Part configuration.
Using multiple PE SharePoint Director instances In huge SharePoint organization there is often the need, to restructure information for a special interests and different audiences. This can be accomplished with PE SharePoint Director by using multiple instances with different configurations and different root nodes on one page.
Show items based on custom views By default all items in Libs and Lists will be displayed as defined in the default view. If there is a need to display items as defined in custom views, PE SharePoint director can be configured to show the list of items based on this custom view.
These and a lot of more features makes the PE SharePoint Director to an important tool. Organizations using SharePoint Services will more satisfy their users needs and will enhance users productivity by providing PE SharePoint Director.
